Built and painted by Cleveland based artist Ed Mieczkoski in 1985, Stella City is a complex three dimensional artwork and also the first piece to enter into the Cleveland Clinic's Art Collection. While this piece hangs on the wall like a painting, it is far from one dimensional.

Treatment

The boards that dynamically project outside the traditional picture plane have at times suffered some small losses to the corners of the boards. The ICA treated the work in 2009 as part of routine maintenance to clean away dirt and dust and to reconstruct the missing corners so that the small losses would not distract from the energy of the work. New corners were cast in an epoxy putty, secured in place and shaped with sanding. These areas were then painted to blend with the surrounding original paint design. Once the stability of the many construction joins was confirmed, the piece then returned to the public eye at the Clinic.
