Conservation

ICA is the oldest not-for-profit regional art conservation center in the United States.  For nearly sixty years, ICA has cleaned, repaired and restored works of art and objects of cultural and personal significance.  While paintings were the main focus of treatments in the early days of the organization, over the decades our areas of expertise have expanded to include architectural surfaces, three-dimensional objects of all media, paper-based materials (including books, photographs, fine art prints, and documents), and textiles.

All ICA conservation staff hold degrees in conservation specialties from graduate training programs and have extensive post-graduate experience from institutions across this country and Europe.  All are Fellows or Professional Associates of the American Institute for Conservation, the national profession organization for conservators.

The ICA is pleased to undertake projects for collecting institutions, government entities, corporations and members of the general public.  We offer free object consultations by appointment.  If you are interested in having an object examined by a member of our staff, please review the “Obtain an Estimate” page.
